I just used Rustoleum Chalked paint and they also have a clear Chalked paint sealer. It works like a regular sealer.

A spray on poly , as it will go on in a light mist and so not disturb or rub off the chalk paint and you can do several light coats .

I keep reading that General Finishes Flat topcoat is the best.

Hi! I use General Finishes Flat Out Flat for a finish for most projects. It has no odor, paints on smoothly, leaves a beautiful finish and cleans up with soap and water. And, it doesn't leave that waxy feel on your painted furniture! Occasionally, if something has a lot of intricate details I'll use a spray matte poly finish. That takes 2-3 coats to get a smooth finish.

Depends if it's going outside or staying inside. Inside you can use a rub on wax. If it's going outside use a poly...

I did a high traffic table with Min/Wax Polycrylic (water based), very pleased with the results, ASCP chalk paint, with black french graphics (done in Folk Art), it didn't remove any of the design or discolor the paint, it has a nice smooth durable finish (I did put multiple very thin coats with a Purdy synthetic brush, and a very fine sanding between coats

General Finishes Dead Flat Varnish is the bomb, if you want an antiqued look...not glossy at all. Here is my example. They were the old school red oak. I get tons of compliments on them.
