HI Kathy, If i were you, i'd definitely try this. It would look so pretty and be easy to care for and clean. https://www.remodelaholic.com/quick-install-of-concrete-countertops-kitchen-remodel/
You can use a tile paint kit and paint them. Cheapest and economical way.
I painted the grout between my tiles and they looked just like new. And as long as you clean the tiles with mild soap and water or bacteria fighting soap and water and dry them immediately with an absorbent cloth, they will stay that way. My tile guy told me this and I find it to be true. I have done this ever since and they still look just like new.
One other option is to use Rock Solid by Rustoleum. It is available at home improvement stores and is often used as a garage floor finish. It is a 2-part epoxy type product. I have not used it but my children have and they did their kitchen counter tops. They were tan laminate formica with a birds-eye design. They chose grey and it turned out to be beautiful. Maybe check it out at your Home Depot Lowes....... it comes in a few colors now.
You could paint the tiles and re-stain the wood, and when you paint it put a protective sealant on it.
