What is the best not too expensive way to renew 70’s countertops?

    Tile over them--or if the countertops are made of formica, you'll have to peel off the formica before placing the tile. Heating the formica with an iron or heat gun helps with the removal.

    If you can't change them then work with them. Nostalgia is a great decorating inspiration--- why not do a 70's themed kitchen?

    Get an estimate from Home Depot or Lowes for ready made counter tops. They come in standard colors, or you can pick your own from hundreds of colors and patterns. You will need to take your measurements for an estimate. Ask at the kitchen department. Formica is still the best and they have beautiful new colors and patterns. Granite is expensive, needs regular sealing, and cracks. You may also be able to have new laminate installed on your current counter top. They have contractors that can do that quickly. Counter tops last a long time and add much to the value of your home.

    .I recently saw where someone covered them with contact paper. Not too sure how long this would last, but it looked nice in the pictures.
