What type of paint would I use for my metal dinette chairs?

The chairs have rounded legs, seat and back. I've removed the padded seat and back to reupholster them. But now I need to scrap off paint on the metal legs and back. Would I use spray paint or canned paint and use a sponge brush or regular bristle brush?

  • If you use a spray paint for metal (Rustoleum) I don't think you have to scrap or sand.

check tractor supply for tractor paint. It is a very durable enamel. Lightly sand, brush on. It settles well so the brush strokes aren't very noticeable at all. It wears like iron! I used it on old shelving as well as a patio table set.

Just lightly sand to remove any shine and roughen for paint. Use Rustoleum or Krylon Spray paint for metal.

I agree with the others to use spray paint and then seal it with a clear spray for extra protection in either a gloss or flat finish depending on the look you are going for. I hope you post your finished project as I would love to see it!
