How to paint an old suitcase.

Old Suitcases

How to spruce up old suitcases for decorating.

Tape

Choose the paint colors you like. I went with a white and yellow that I had on hand. Then tape up the old suitcase to protect the old hardware and leather siding with painters tape.

Paint

Start painting the main areas. You will need a couple of coats of paint depending upon how dry the suitcase is. I went with three coats of paint on mine.

Painting

Look how much cleaner this suitcase looks and how the leather and hardware now pop! This is such a simple way to brighten up those old dingy suitcases that you see in thrift shops and fleamarkets.

Stripes

I wanted to add a few yellow stripes to one of the suitcases to match one of our rooms. To do this, I added the paint tape where I wanted the yellow stripes.

Paint the Stripes

Here is where I painted the yellow stripes. Remove the paint tape once it’ is completely dried.

Now these repurposed suitcases are ready for decorating. Drop by the blog to see more.
