Hubby got a new boat, and as you all know, every new purchase must have accessories! Camo seats, bell anchors, poly rope...the list goes on and on! Every fishing trip showed us new accessories we had to have. For instance...
We would be sitting at the front of the boat, poles in hand, and our....adult beverages tucked next to the seats riser. Sooner or later, one of us would accidentally kick that drink, and foam the boat, which is a class A misdemeanor, only slightly better than not leaning far enough over the boats edge when one had to....but I digress.... icon
Hubby bought an extra seat pedestal.....
And a mount that is usually mounted to the bottom of said seat so that it can mount on that pedestal. Hubby looked at me and asked if I could make a beverage holder for his boat. So I started thinking. We're woodworkers, (we make sawdust...) so I first thought wood. How thick it would have to be, how many coats of poly to protect it from sun and water.....and then thought plastic would be lighter and waterproof. Hmmmmm.......icon
I had this cutting board....you can see where I'm going, right? Lightweight, strong yet thin. I cut it in half, and marked the four holes from the seat mount on to the cutting board for drilling. Then I measured a soda can in a koozie, and cut out two circles with a 3 1/4 inch hole cutter, mounted on our drill press. One can just as easily do the hole cutting using your hand held drill.
Now I have a cutting board cut in half, four holes drilled in the corners that align with the slots in the seat mount, and two beverage holes that will fit a coke can in a koozie. So far, so good!

And I want the top shelf to be about this high......now, I'm gonna need some spacers.

I looked around and found an aluminum wind-chime that had gotten old and had fallen. The lengths of aluminum looked good, just needed a washing up. So I suds the green off, and with a hacksaw, cut me four posts.
Assembly time! I had all the hardware here at home, washers, bolts, lock washers and nuts. And they were the right length and size. That doesn't happen very often!
Here we go, looking good.....
Two steps forward, one step back...forgot to mount the seat mount on the bottom of this thing! Okay then!
Ta-Da! Beverage holder is now in place! There will be no foaming in the boat! Thank you all for bearing with me....icon
