White Furniture – The Secret To Painting It

These end tables were found on the side of the road. I sanded some places smooth, filled a few veneer bubbles and cleaned them with White Lightning. I patched and filled a space where each were missing a drawer.

Then I used a primer called BOSS by Dixie Belle. BOSS is a water based stain-blocking primer perfect for painting furniture white furniture. It comes in clear and white. I chose white.

I used two coats. I used my Dixie Bell Brush. BOSS went on similar to paint and dried fast. Biggest advantage to BOSS-no smell! 

Dixie Belle’s whitest white is called Cotton. ONE COAT of white paint was all I needed! 

I then used 120 grit sandpaper to distress the edges which allowed a bit of wood to peek through. 

I then wanted to add a bit of shine and protection, especially to the top of these tables since I assumed they would be used as either nightstands or end tables. This was also my way to do a test…

I applied Dixie Belle’s Topcoat in satin finish right over the white chalk paint. If there was going to be any kind of bleed through or color turning, it would happen now. Nothing happened! BOSS did its job well!!

So I think I've finally found the best way to paint white furniture!!! If you have a favorite way to paint white furniture, I'd love to hear about it.
