I was looking around RedRacks with my sister Laurie one day. I am always looking for an item to work on when ever I am at a thrift store. I seen this plastic sewing box on the top shelf. I loved the design on the lid and the front side. I didnt know exactly what I was going to do with it. I knew for $5.99 it was going home with me. Aqua and turquoise are my favorite colors. I thought I would paint it one I those colors but changed my mind. I wanted it to look old so I used the paint and black wax I received from Hometalk. Perfect choice.
Plastic Sewing Box
I washed it down with mild soapy water. I used a small thin paint brush to help get all of the dirt out of the creavouses. I dryed it with a lint free rag.
All cleaned up.
I painted one coat of the paint on the sewing box. And let it dry. And then painted on a second coat. I carefully painted around the hindges and latch. I didn't like how they looked so I went ahead and painted over them. Much better!
After two coats of paint.
I took an old paint brush and began putting on the black wax. Making sure to work it into the creavouses of the designs.
Painting on the wax.
I took a lint free rag and rubbed off some of the wax. Rub until it is no longer tacky feeling. Then buff it with a new clean lint free rag. I love how it turned out. It looks like stone. I wasn't planning on using it for a sewing box. After I was done I changed my mind. I was going to pitch my old one because it was cracked. My ten year old grandson was staying with us for the weekend. I asked him if he could use it for something. Being like his grandma he said yes. He decided to use it to store his Nerf guns and bullets. He was really happy to use it. He has a creative mind. I love seeing the things he comes up with. I think I am going to paint it to look like camouflage.
I love how it turned out!
