apply water-based urethane. Couple of coats
Poly Gloss is available in a spray can these days and I use it all the time on my miniature furniture pieces. Not only do you get the shine you want, but you also seal the item against water and make it easy to clean without damaging it.
I use a clear spray paint. Rustoleum has a gloss clear that works great.
