You can, but it won't hide the cracking. Here's a link on painting faux leather:

Hello. My son experience the situation he did try some fabric paint while will cover the cracks and defects BUT the crumbling generally will continue. His solution was to put on a slipcover.
Hi Faye, here's an article on how to repair and paint a faux leather sofa. https://www.wikihow.com/Repair-a-Faux-Leather-Sofa
Hi Faye, yes you can, but it doesn't always work on the peeling parts and it doesn't last long, unfortunately. Here's a really good article that explains why and what you can do in the short term - https://rubnrestore.com/how-to/bonded-leather-blues/
No, because any solution will only be temporary! Had you thought to just colour in the areas that you can clean off all flaking faux leather. Maybe use matching or contrast Leather dye and Shoe Polish?
The flaking will continue, so sorry, you can re-upholster of cover it up.
If you do you need to get all the peelings of first they do sell a leather repair itโs a whole sheet you put over the seat cushion
You can but it is at best only a temporary fix. If it is the seat of the furniture it will continue to cause an issue as far as looking perfect.
Hi Faye, you sure can paint it, hope this instruction helps you our!

I have painted over fabric and it still looks amazing. Faux leather is a like a fabric it could work try this link https://www.simplenaturedecorblog.com/4-insanely-awesome-steps-to-painting-a-upholstered-ottoman/
Yes you can but it isn't going to fix the cracking or make it look new. Simplest solution is to cover it with a slip cover. I got one for my couch at amazon for less then $30. That way cheap enough to change the look with a new pattern or color and just take it off and throw it in the washing machine can't get much easier.
Thanks for all the info/suggestions.
You can, but it won't conceal it. I would get a slip cover or find a really nice throw/blanket and add some pillows to spruce up the couch.
For it to look nice you would have to remove all the peeling stuff
You can as others have said, and I've seen it done, but it doesn't last or look fabulous, especially if you have cracks and peels. I think a slipcover might be a better option.
