Is it possible to paint a new stainless steel refrigerator? I am wanting a white refrigerator ... all seem to be out of stock! If I can paint it, what kind of paint should I use? Please do not send me links on how to do it ... just advice!

  • Yes, it is possible. You will need to clean/prep it well and the best paint would be a two-part epoxy.

It is a lot of work and may come out streaky with paint. Give it a second thought or wait for the white to come in stock.

  • Another option is that some companies make large magnets in different colors for appliances that will give it a different color. I had a friend that did this for her dishwasher. It may be worth checking out and it'll save you some time!

    Chalk paint or vinyl wrap.

there is plenty of info on how to do change the paint color but my advise is to look for a white fridge at outlet stores or other locations instead of buying a stainless steel model which is more expensive and then painting it because you may not get the desired look you want

you asked for advise and you need to weigh the costs before making that decision

Home Depot has white refrigerators as well as Loews and Sears has outlet stores too

There is a specific appliance spray paint. You will want to clean it thoroughly and prepare the surface with a liquid sanding medium.

Chalk paint it another option but in my experience it scratches easily, even when sealed.

I would continue to shop around or see how long it would be if you ordered 1 with your choice of features.

    Surprisingly Amazon has them!

Check out IKEA too, they have a couple of white ones.

There has to be appliance stores around that carries them, Lowes, Home Depot, and Sears appliances if you have one near you.

Honestly I would not paint a new appliance because you prefer another color, it could lead to other situations that are unpleasant-such as rust because the factory seal has been compromised. It might also violate the warranty.

Rustoleum 2x or Krylon spray paint for metal. I would shop around. Stainless steel appliances are more expensive than white.

  • A stainless appliance is definitely more expensive and generally quite desirable. But if it's not the look for you, try decals rather than painting as the paint will wear and potentially scratch off. It'd be harder to clean too.

One of my friend's husband that renovated her refrigerator. It looked amazing. She didn't paint it or use viny adhesive. Her husband used sheet metal and cut it to fit. For the sides he curved the sides to cover entire fridge door. It looked real because he used metal instead of plastic vinyl or paint which can be sooo tricky.

  • Yes you definitely can, there are certain appliance spray paint which you may need to use. Just clean it thoroughly and apply liquid sanding medium. You can use two-part epoxy, chalk paint, or vinyl

I believe it’s possible with the right type of paint. Try googling, “what type of paint to use on metal appliances.” Though, as a former white refrigerator owner myself, I’d advise against painting it. Sure, it may match, blend in, or make small spaces seem larger, but they’re just as hard to keep clean, and over time the paint can be exposed to a number of elements (especially in the kitchen), that can alter and fade the color such as dirty hands, grease from the stove/oven humidity, dust, etc. Stainless steel is much easier to keep clean!

To make the best nontoxic DIY all-purpose cleaner + disinfectant, you’ll need: 1microfiber towel 1 glass bottle w/ spray nozzle, filtered water, distilled vinegar and 70% Isopropyl alcohol.

    Instructions:

(Since your bottle might be larger, I’ll use percentages instead of cups)

•Fill 50% of glass bottle with filtered water

•Fill 80% of remaining half of bottle fill with distilled vinegar.

    • Fill the last 20% of your bottle with 70% isopropyl alcohol.

For Desired Aroma: add 3-5 drops of favored essential oils. This will not leave streaks on windows or glass surfaces.

For Water Prone Areas (sinks, laminate floors, bathtubs showers, stovetops + drip dishes:

•Boil filtered water before filling the bottle

•Add 1 heaping TBSP of corn starch

    •Shake bottle before using.

Do not add corn starch to mix if cleaning windows or glass surfaces.

    I hope this helps! icon

Good question. Im not sure Id be happy with less than a perfect professional application.

Instead I would consider using a skin. Here’s a link to skins that you can purchase. Hope this helps!

Stainless steel fridges are usually more expensive than white. This seems like a risky thing to do. Your paint finish will never be as durable as the factory finish. What about buying a used white fridge from someone and wait until there are more new white ones in stock.
