    Yes

Yes, try white uppers and a solid color bottom. Or try white uppers and lowers and a solid color for your island. This makes the island look more like a piece of furniture.

Why not? I think that'd give your kitchen a really fun look. If you want to go for a more sophisticated look, paint each one a different shade of the same color so you end up with an ombre effect.

Absolutely...i think consistency is key though in considering which cabinets will be which color. Will all the uppers be one color and all lowers another. Will only on bank of cabinet be a different color (for example my top and bottom cabinets where my double ovens are installed just out relative to the rest and I considered do those a different color). Consider the lighting in your kitchen as well. If there's a particularly dark section of your kitchen consider that section in a lighter color. If you have glass "showcase" cabinets those could also be highlighted in a different color. So many options! Just consider your goal when selecting colors and differing colors at that and go with what will put a smile on your face when you see it every day!
