I would tape off the top of the table and use a spray chalkboard paint on it. Don't forget to 'season' the table first by rubbing the side of a stick of chalk all over it.

If you want to turn all of the surfaces of the table and chairs into chalkboards, I would recommend using a brush-on chalkboard paint. There is also a clear chalkboard paint that can be applied over any regular latex paint for a different chalkboard color. I hope this helps!
I would prime it first with a good bonding primer and then paint chalk board paint over it. Fun!
