What color to paint my cupboards?

I have 1970 oak cabinet and my counter is black-grey-blue granite I have same color crystal back splash and stainless appliances. My flooring is espresso hardwood. What color would you paint the cupboards? I love my kitchen except the cupboards. Thank you for your input.

My cabinets used to be the same color as your are now. Since you have off-white in your tile, the white would really add a snap of color to your kitchen. I have white cabinets with linen-colored doors and a dark granite on my counters. I don't know whether to say the white and linen makes the dark granite pop or the dark granite makes the white and linen colors pop. They just look so nice together. My walls are the color of chocolate ice cream which softens the contrast. I have received many compliments on the color combination so I know it was a good choice. I hope this helps. I think Linda is right on about picking out the lighter colour in your blacksplash for your cupboards. Love your two fur babies. They seem very interested in what you are doing.

It depends on what color from the back splash and counter tops you want to bring to the for front. I personally think that I would do a soft grey.

Gray or white - you have to go light since the counter top is dark and flooring - otherwise it will look like a dark cave.

Not white. White will magnify the grout lines. Base paint by blending lightest countertop color with floor and backsplash. Glaze finish to soften .

Whatever color you choose, it must be light color against the dark counter top & floor, like agreed by most readers. :)

Instead of painting, which will probably chip, consider stripping your cabinets and staining them a light gray. then, if you want you can have a shiny varnish or a satin varnish, or even a matte finish. It might be s little more work but it will be worth it. (BTW, our cabinets were painted before we moved into our house. They have to be touched up all the time.

Love Leisa's transform. The pictures really look great. Love lines, and handle/pulls. I liked my idea but I really like Leisa's photos. I see the cabinet, not the grout lines with dark bottom and light top. Post your progress . Can't wait to see your finished project.

I've always been a lover of blue so, naturally, am partial to blues. Have you thought of a greyed blue (?) but if the brown in your backsplash is a warm chocolate brown, don't go too grey as grey is a cooler color. A Wedgwood Blue would be beautiful abutting your dark hardwood floors, counter & backsplash. My own opinion is - grey has been a trendy color for a few years now and we all know trends come then go. (Remember Hunter Green in the 80's??). I love your backsplash - white uppers would be lovely with brown bottoms OR do all white. It's so classic and classy! Go on Houzz and type in "painted kitchen cabinets" and you will get lots of inspiration. Beautiful cat, by the way!

The photo was from hometalk as a featured slideshow. Search hometalk, maybe you will get the answer. If it were me, I would get the best paint, paint chips and match the family of shades to the gray. Lighter or darker shades, your choice. I have been interested for have cabinets that are white, painted, needless to say they are a mess. I bought this mess. LOL Best of Good Wishes for you.

I would paint the cabinets a light gray. I love your back splash. Please keep the cat off your counters. Health problems could occur.

Hi again. Here is a photo with raising upper cabinets . Also showing white uppers and gray bottom. I think the gray is entirely to dark for your kitchen. Keep them light gray. White uppers / light gray bottoms.

I'd go white - but paint the insides of the doors a vivid red. Whether to head more towards blue-red/magenta or orange-red would depend on the natural lighting in your kitchen.
