Front door color help please

We have a yellow brick on the bottom of our home and a dark brown at the top. I would like to give the front door a bit of color but not sure what. Or, should I just leave it brown like the top part of house?

    How about a muted turquoise?

What color is the roof? Do you have a walk way? Personally these should all be considered when selecting another color.

If would do a warm cream color that coordinates with the brick work and then add some pots of bright annuals for more color.

I do not mean to be Picky here, but I noticed at the bottom left corner of what I believe is the screen door some pain has been removed. I think because of the colors already present, I would paint the screen door or trim with a color to match the brick, It will mellow out the door a bit. Just my thought.

I agree with MN MOM! A warm cream color would brighten the entrance. Maybe a shade similar to your stone walk. It would tie things together. I would not rely on the roof color for anything because it would draw the eye to the roof. I also assume the dark wood encompasses the whole front of the house. If this is so, when your budget allows, consider taking a dominant color from the walk and painting the dark wood leaving the trim dark. This would brighten the home and further tie everything together.

My husband noticed that the brick is separating at the mortar line on the right. He says a quick & inexpensive repair is to use concrete repair/patch that comes in an easy to use tube that fits in a calking gun. You can get it at HD or Lowes. After it dries, you can paint over it to match the original grout.

A shade of aqua would look wonderful and draw the eye to your entrance. Additionally you can add focal points with potted plants along the walkway. Best of luck.

What's your favorite color? With all the neutral going on, a pop of color would really add some interest! A couple people mentioned aqua or turquoise, that's a really "in" color now, it seems and would liven up your entry. You could also add that color to a few other spots to unite it...if you want to.
  • Melody Melody on May 17, 2016
Well if it were me and mine... I would take the "family's" color and change all of the entry way to make a complete make over and statement of (THIS IS IT!) but I would do the miner repairs required first so the job will be WELL done.
  • Paint it! It's just paint! if you don't like it, you can go back to boring brown. Bright yellow, green, aqua even red would all go. Pick a shade you like and go for it.
  • Janet Pizaro Janet Pizaro on May 17, 2016
Just my opinion I would not choose aqua, turquoise or any of those color schemes, To me that is reaching on the level that your house will look out of proportion. It is necessary to take in consideration of your roof, pathway, brickwork etc. To me picking a random color will not be a good decision. Sorry

Teal, and I would paint the cement ledge that is on top of the brick teal also. tie it together. I recently painted an ugly white storm door teal, the front door teal and the garage door too. Color just makes a personal statement and makes you happy to drive up to your home.
  • Melanie Melanie on May 18, 2016
I'd paint the screen door and frame the same color as your lower brick (it doesn't really look so yellow, more like antique ivory). Then I would paint the door a beautiful bright berry red. It would be an exclamation point.

there is a great website coolors.co not .com you just hit the button that says start color generator, then push the space bar until you see the colors of you door and brick and then hit the padlock to save them and everytime you hit the space bar it gives you colors that coordinate. fun to play with!

What is your happy color? Almost any would work. Teal is great with ANY color (the most complimentary color is blue). Do you like orange or a citron green? The world is your oyster so to speak. Now not all will work, but teal would be lovely!

I have the exact door and storm door! The bottom is shades of red brick . The top is white so I would not recommend the color I used. I would recommend an orange to a( darker) rust whatever is comfortable for you or a bright purple to an (darker) aubergine. I painted the storm door the same color as the door. You might want to consider the roof color as well. Black would be another consideration. Any shutter color color to worry about? Home Depot and Lowe's have paint samples for around three dollars.....invest in a few!

I have a question is the top of the brick trimed in marble? As a Painters wife I would do Teal also chocolate brown goes great with Teal. Now however, if you wanted to change the brown you could go with so many different colors. Beverly B. Suffolk, Va

Cyan is a shade of turquoise that would look great.

In the US it was common to paint the front door to blend in or match with the surrounding house colors. No longer--choose whatever color you like, a bright red might be a little too bold, but the color is up to you. Like in Europe my front door is painted a bold turquoise high gloss which stands out from the two shades of yellow house paint. Unless you will also paint the storm door, choose a bolder color of its blue/grey palette.

Brown and yellow are autumn colors, so I'd pick another one. A brownish orange or red would look organic yet still pop.
  • Tammy Tammy on May 18, 2016
Any warm color would be great

Idea one: Match the color of the mortar from the bottom brickwork. 2. Robin's egg blue goes well with all the brown shades you have. 3. Definitely do not keep it dark to 'match' the dark top of house or wood trims. The door should 'invite' me in, not hide the way into your home.

Brown is a deep shade of orange, so a tone of orange would be a complementary color and a shade of blue, like the teal mentioned above would be the color on the opposite side of the color-wheel and would work as well.

Are you talking about the storm door or the front door behind? Try painting the front door the color of the brick and then paint the storm door and the trim around the door a nice mid-tone yellow (ie SW Rayo del sol), creating a "frame" for the front door.

    Orange/burnt orange

A sage green would brighten up your entry, & your wreath would look great on it !
  • Tammy Sea Tammy Sea on May 18, 2016
I would go with a cream, yellow, green... but nothing dark, and nothing bright. Your current color scheme is such that a bright color would jar the senses when looking at the entry as a whole. Red is a popular color for doors, but can be muddied by brown. I would go to Behr. com and upload a pic of the house, and experiment with different colors. In the end, it's your house and your choice. Do what makes you happy. Good luck! :)

I was also thinking something in the orange family. What about a turquoise, lime or salmon color.??
  • Barbara Schmitt Barbara Schmitt on May 18, 2016
Rust could be your color. I live in a condo and that is the color they are using and we have stone on the bottom of our outside walls.
  • Robin Robin on May 18, 2016
Turquoise would look great with the dark brown and your brick. Then add some outdoor décor in the turquoise and maybe a lime green or yellow to make the entry inviting.
  • Patsy Patsy on May 18, 2016
How about a turquoise it would look nice with the tan siding and look really pretty from the street.
  • Barbara Barbara on May 18, 2016
I'm not a fan of painted doors actually, ours is plain white! With the dark brown and the yellow base, I'd stick with white or even dove gray.
  • Sherry Fram Sherry Fram on May 18, 2016
I agree with the turquoise & yellow. The colors in your wreath look good too so you could use that as your starting point.
  • Janet Smith Janet Smith on May 18, 2016
I like the idea of a pretty teal or robin's egg blue. Then add some color to the porch with baskets or urns of flowers.
  • Debi53 Debi53 on May 18, 2016
I'm with the others who say turquoise or aqua. Looks great with brown.
  • Mickey Baron Mickey Baron on May 19, 2016
Look how those bright flowers in your wreath make that area bright & interesting. You need a POP of color. The new popular turquoise or a blue are great suggestions. I'd get a semi gloss. Then the urns & flowers & stencil a rug or buy a welcome mat. Jet black house numbers, Jet black light fixture, Jet black doorbell. Brassy gold handle. BEAUTIFUL redo. Good luck, post b4's n afters pls.?

You might want to consider using Orange. It's in the same color family but would add a nice pop of color.
  • IFortuna IFortuna on Aug 12, 2016
Take a clue from the wreath on your door. That or a similar GREEN would go nicely with the brown of the house and yellow brick. Then there is an eggshell color or pale yellow to accent the yellow brick. Go with complimentary or neutral color if you want curbside conservative. : )
