I have also found that by layering special walnut over weathered gray from Minwax gives you a pretty weathered look too.
A full line paint store can advise you & mix any color in the rainbow. Bring the wood in with you when you go.
Think about what kind of stain you want, in terms of transparency and what you will use as a top coat.
If you mean you have a can of redwood stain you want to lighten, add some pickled oak to a small sample, measuring your amounts of each stain, so it can be repeated.
If the furniture item is a natural redwood, try sanding the finish, then add some pickled oak stain. It should lighten the redwood appearance. If you want it further lightened, you could brush on a light grey paint, then seal, once you've attained the color you desire.
