How can I paint whirlpool trim?

I have an older 8 jet kohler whirlpool tub. The Jets are trimmed in a gold color and I want to change them to update bathroom- they sell kits but they are as much as a new tub!! Does anyone know how to paint the trim jet covers or can you give me any other ideas to update the gold- I wanted to go with a brushed silver for new hardware
Thanks!!

Lightly scuff the covers with 220 grit sand paper or a green kitchen scrubby just to remove any shine. Stuff some paper towels in the jets. Tape around the jets and tub with blue painters tape. Use Rustoleum 2X spray paint for metal. Spray several light coats on the trim to get a good bond and smooth finish. Remove the tape and paper towels.
Liz, I am interested to know if painting the trim on the whirlpool tub jets worked well. We have the gold trimmed ones and want to change the color.
