That is so weird after 5 coats of paint. I too painted unfinished cabinets with gray paint and I did not have this problem. You can buy a clear sealer and apply it and then paint over it. It is not a poly--it is a sealer. I would not use chalk paint. I would stick to the paint you used or otherwise you might have a difference in color and you would have to redo everything. This way you should be able to just redo the areas that are an issue. Plus--you would also need to seal the chalk paint--either with a poly or wax. Another step you may not want to do.
Hi Morgan, I would recommend two coats the oil based primer made by kilkz and then another two coats of your cabinet paint.
what was the primer used?
To be honest with you as a ex Home depot associate,I do not think that was the right primer for your project.I have worked in the paint dept.I read the description and all it said as wood, not what kind of wood. So heres my thought first off call glidden, ask for a manager, explain what happened and request a full refund, next call Home Depot get a manager and a name, explaint that the products purchased did not meet you expectations, request a refund.I know this sounds like alot ,however you were totally given wrong instructions. If you do not receive any satisfaction call the Atlanta Head quarters.
YUUUP! Sounds like wrong primer. Kilz would have worked. A sanding sealer for raw wood would also have helped. Glad you got it resolved.
