There are a few ways to distress paint.
The first one is probably the easiest for a country rustic look— using sandpaper along the edges or raised areas.
Another one is a diststressing wax which can be brown or white or you coul make acrylic washes to achieve the same thing.
Also scattering flicking thinned paint is another idea to consider. Building up in the depressed edges might be considered

You can distress any kind of paint; chalk paint, milk paint, latex paint and even acrylic craft paint can be distressed. All you have to do is use a piece of sandpaper or a sanding block to sand off the paint down to the wood on the "high spots," edges or any place where natural wear and tear would normally occur. There really is no “right” or “wrong” way to do this. Personal preference dictates whether you distress a little or a lot. If you’ve never done any distressing before, start out conservatively and just sand a few areas. Then, if you think it needs more, gradually increase the number of areas you sand until you are pleased with the way it looks.
Use a really fine sand paper and sand a little here and there.

After you paint something you could eather put black on the edges all over and make it look old or Brown .Or sand the edges down aft ER all paint is dry corners make old paint stick out if you want a certain color to come through then paint the piece that color first then when dry paint the reg color let dry 2 days then sand corners down legs make color stick out.
Sand it in spots that would naturally distress (corners, edges)
