How do I paint old pine wallboard to get a barnwood finish?

We bought an adorable old cottage that is full of pine (ceiling, floors, walls & furniture!). We want to use a paint technique to cover the walls to look like barn board. The pine has a coat of varnish and is quite orange. We want to still see the grain of the wood but get rid of the orange. We know we have to sand it. We hope to mix gray paint, white paint and water to do it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn’t paint it. Try messing with stain. I’d stain it dark brown with a transparent stain and then glaze it with a off white glaze. I found that works best on raw pine. I actually sealed the dark stain with water based poly and then ran a glaze over it and wiped it down and got a good old barn wood look
