Hi Rhonda I painted out several popcorn ceilings and I found a REALLY heavy knapp (thick) roller does the best job. Don't push to hard when you roll it and use a LOT of paint.
Here's a couple of methods:

Paint in one direction and stop. Don't roll back and forth because once the popcorn gets wet it starts to peel. For stains, roll or spray paint the stained spot, with the same color the ceiling will be painted with, and let dry completly before painting the entire ceiling.

Hello,
Try using the Pro Runner Pro System as advertised on TV. It is a foam roller system with a long reach handle. No mess, No stress. Simple and quick!
Hi they make foam rollers for popcorn ceilings. Ask at your home improvement center or paint store
Use a roller for rough surfaces. They are usually very thick and conform to the different levels of the finish. Good luck and stay safe!
A plush roller for heavy texture will get your paint applied in a hurry. Do one coat and don't over-roll as the popcorn is easiy to saturate too much and then will fall off the ceiling.
Use a thick nap roller and ceiling paint. I like to use an extension pole. You will need 1.5 times the paint or even double because it soaks up
the paint.
Your best bet is to remove and re-texture the popcorn ceilings. However, a shaggy roller cover will work if you want to paint it. Be prepared to have a lot of paint. I might prime it first. Once you paint popcorn, it will make it more difficult to remove in the future.
Use a fluffy roller it will cover better
A roller with a larger nap will work best
HI,
a Spray System, a Roller or a Distemper Brush.
