How do you paint over highly varnished wood? Sand first? What paint?

YYs you would have to sand it otherwise paint wont stick. Paint depends you can use latex or chalk paint
Hi Trish. I would lightly sand it first. Then prime with a oil base primer. It will work better than the latex primer. Last paint. Good Luck!
