I suggest going to your local paint store and look at the paint sample cards. Pick lots of your favorite colors that will coordinate with your furnishings. Take them home and tape to your wall. as the day goes on you can see which go good with your lighting, your furniture and your taste, so you start eliminating until you are down to that one that seems to best fit the space. DON'T be afraid of adding color.

If you are painting a room that opens up to other rooms, go with a neutral shade that any color of decor can go with...such as light cream, beige, light gray, or pale buttery yellow. If you are painting a bedroom or bath, you can use any color that you love that will go with your decor in that room. But personally, I still like to paint every room in my house either the same color or in the same color family so the colors flow from room to room. It is more pleasing to the eye and easier to live with. I have been a decorator and floral designer for over 35 years. I hope that this helps.

It's a matter of what you like. The paint store has sample cards that contain a group of colors that go well together for doing accents and trim. Bring home the ones you like hold them up against your furniture and drapes then pick the ones that speak to you. You can buy tester samples and try them out on the wall. Make sure to look at them in daylight and at night as paint looks different in different lighting. Don't over think it. Pick the one that you like commit and paint! Remember it's just paint and if you don't like it you can return it to most stores and exchange it for a different color. Have fun

  • It is your house, choose what you like! If unsure, buy a bunch of samples and put up on the walls and live with them for awhile and see what you are drawn to and eliminate those that you do not care for. Or hire an interior decorator / designer to help you out.

I like to get some big paint samples, and put them up on the walls for a week to pick my top 3, Then I narrow it down, you can also then get some sample cans of the paint, and paint larger swatches of the color.

This way you can see how it goes with your furniture, how the light of day, and night lighting affect the color.

in a common area I like neutrals, the bath area gets white...it's a really small room and if mold mildew show you know about it sooner than later. The bedrooms can be lots more colorful. Pick out a few testers get a panel of foam core presentation board. Paint your self one giant paint chip. Take it to the room u want in that color...move it arround. Lighting plays a big part on how the color looks...repaint the foam core if you want to try other colors.

Look at the fabrics you have in the room. Take your ideas from them. Actually TAKE some of the fabrics to the paint store and grab BUNCHES of paint samples that complement your fabrics (not necessarily match) and bring them all home.

Place the paint samples all over the room and slowly weed out the ones you don't like. You will eventually find the one - or TWO colors you love. It is a process and it takes time, but you will end up LOVING the results!
