How to dull a spray painted finish?
I recently sprayed painted a decorative window pane. It's just a bit too white for what I'd like, and a bit too glossy, even though it's matte. I'd like to make it look a bit 'old', but not sure how to do this. I thought of taking a very small amount of stain and lightly going over a few areas. I can sand a few areas to give it that worn look, but spray paint doesn't seem to sand, it just 'rolls'. I don't really want cream, so don't want to respray it. Any ideas of how to give it just a hint of 'older, not quite so white' finish? Thanks!

You could apply some dark wax in places
Try soaking it overnight in a strong solution of black tea.
You can add a glaze to it. Wipe on and then off almost immediately.
Your thinking was what I would have suggested. Keep sanding and get a few spots down to bare wood - high quality spray paint kinda gets gummy when you try to sand it but, eventually, it does come off. And then stain the bare wood areas.
In about a month that will match the other windows .
Hi! If you buy the dark wax, like Waverly at Walmart, it should tone it down. Good luck!
Use Rub and Buff. You can get it at Michaels or Hobby Lobby
A matte sealer could dull the glossy finish.
I used brown antiquing gel on a mirror that I sprayed that was too white and bright and it worked great.
Try a very fine grit sand paper
The spray paint might not be cured enough if it’s rolling when sanded. Let it dry for several days and try sanding again. You can get floral spray paints that are translucent then seal everything with a matte spray.
I would buff it down with some 0000 steel wool just til the shine is off.
