Amazon sells faux granite contact paper. Maybe you can find some that is a close match for your counter, and use a small spot of contact paper on the spot?

IMO, for the price of all the requisite materials, and the amount of work involved in preparation and application especially considering that the countertop is 20 years old, it may be more cost effective to purchase an entirely new piece of laminate.

Here's a solution that may not always be perfect, but will make a big improvement. Polyester resin or auto body filler, often used to repair car bodies. Mix up a small batch by adding some hardener and stirring it thoroughly. Using a putty knife, press the resin into the hole slightly overfilling it. Then just as the material begins to harden while it's somewhat rubbery, trim off the excess with a razor blade.

Next use 600 grit sandpaper to sand the filler smooth. Wetting the paper with water makes it work best. Now it's time to try and match the color of the tile. You can use acrylic craft paints available from Michaels, Hobby Lobby, art supply stores, and online.

The trick here is to use different colors and sponge paint until you get the desires effect that matches. Apply the paint with a small sponge. A makeup sponge works great for small areas. Seal with clear nail polish

We used it on a counter top in a place we had a few years ago. Now you wouldnt need a who kit, but you could do the same procedure with some small hobby paints and artists brushes...

My local habitat for humanity store sells large pieces of laminate for about $25 perhaps it is time for a new counter?

Hello. If this was my countertop, I would try to disguise it with enamel paint. One good sturdy paint you might consider using is Testors enamel paint they are used in the hobby section for models. I have painted Christmas tree balls decades ago in the 1980s and the paints been holding up. It will take some skill and patience to copy the pattering exactly. It’s always a good idea to practice on a piece of cardboard or plastic lid.

Finding the right material or paint that’s food safe and won’t wear away is tricky. Considering you definitely got your money’s worth, you might consider removing just the laminate and replacing it. Or replacing the counter. There are ready made pieces at your local home improvement store. There’s also a countertop paint kit from Rustoleum.
