The above articles I'm sure would help - but just out of curiosity - is there a reason why you can't paint the inside so you don't have to worry about the weather ruining your work?
I was wondering the same thing Maura.
here is info for you
Acrylic: This is a great choice for painting on glass, especially if you're planning on applying it to the outside of the window. Craft paint is just fine for the job. Tempera: Another option for window paint is tempera, although it's more likely to peel off than acrylics.Dec 11, 2014
Acrylic paint will be best
use paint that is specially made for glass and make sure the glass is completely clean before you begin
Hi! It will hold up better if you paint the inside with glass paint. If it must be on the outside, I would use glass paint that is labeled for outside use. Good luck!
I painted flowers on a plastic board a few years ago and hung it outside on our pool shed. It still looks amazing. I used acrylic paint. https://www.exquisitelyunremarkable.com/2018/08/faux-floral-window-box.html
I wonder if having a piece of glass cut that you could paint and hang over your outside window might be a better solution? That way you could keep your hard work turned to the inside and thus out of the harshest of the ellements.
https://amzn.to/3u40vMt paints work well on glass and can be used outside
I hope this helps https://www.houzz.com/discussions/1511353/waterproof-glass-paint
In the long term, the outside of a window gets dirtier faster than the inside and cleaning the windows will take its toll on even the best of paints.
The Painting on the backside of another piece of glass to be “hung” outside would protect and make easy the cleaning of the window and the artwork.
Be careful how it’s “hung” so that the wind doesn’t catch it and break it.
Painting inside would be better long term. What about window film?
Here are some great glass paints for you to use for this project.
