The most important part is the prep. Start by giving the cabinets a good cleaning. If you don't the paint will not adhere well. Here's a link with some tips:

Clean with tsp, remove and label doors and drawers with painters tape, put all hardware in a sealed container, prime and paint with a self leveling paint if you are brushing. I would suggest sherwin Williams
The most important step is the prep. Make sure they are sanded well, perfectly clean, and then use a maximum adhesion primer like Bondz from Zinsser. An enamel paint works well. But for my next kitchen paint job I plan to use Fusion mineral paint.
