How to seal chalk paint?
I just refinished a small dresser in gray and white chalk paint. I want to seal it well since it’s for a baby’s room and have had great luck with Minwax Polycrylic in the past. BUT, today I read - on this sight - that polycrylic over white chalk paint will turn it yellow😳. True or false? Thanks

Hi Robin, I used matte rustoleum clear coat on mine and there has been no yellowing a yet (6 years and counting), Hope this helps
The best sealer for chalk paint is General Finishes Top Coat which does an outstanding job of preserving the look, feel, and color of chalk paint. Their Flat High-Performance Top Coat is a clear, flat, water-based topcoat and excels at making chalk painted or milk painted projects much more durable.
Hello. Here’s a link that should be helpful. Apparently the oil based poly can yellow— poly acrylic should be fine. The best answer might be to contact your chalk paint manufacturer for absolute confirmation.

Clear wax may be your best option. I've used polycrylic to seal chalk paint, but not white.
Polycrylic can react with the product use in the making of chalk paint. Most people seal chalk paint with clear paste wax. You can use a clear spray paint to seal it like Rustoleum 2X.
General Finishes Top Coat is an excellent product, very durable and no yellowing. You could also use wax as a sealer.
Yikes... I had trouble with the white bleeding through originally after I gave the piece a light sanding before painting. I used original oil based kilz and that solved the problem. I do NOT want to use paste wax if I can avoid it but am now afraid to use the polycrylic. Is the General Finish Top Coat a better option? I’ve never used a clear spray paint and I’m not sure how that would work.
I read the link above which also mentioned a disclaimer from GF regarding the possibility of yellowing over bright white paint😳
Oil based will yellow it but water based should not.
I have not sealed two kitchen large cabinets I did four years ago and they are still fine.
You can use Crystal Clear poly. The regular poly WILL yellow your piece and continue to get darker over time.

It might, I've heard polycrylic can do that. Generally folks use wax to seal chalk paint.
Hi,
You could use a clear or antique wax to do that job.
I haven't had that experience, and that's what I use
You could use wax or use a water based polycrylic
