Clean them, sand them, prime them, and paint them. White is just one of the finish colors popular today.

A good friend of mine did this to her wooden cabinets recently. I could not believe she went all white, but it looks stunning! She also opened some of her cabinets by putting in glass on the doors. It looks so modern and clean!

White is on trend now, but will fall out of favor once everyone realizes how difficult it is to keep clean.

I was looking at homes recently and one of them had all white cabinets in the kitchen. It made the kitchen look so bright and sunny! The accents in the room were red — towels, tiered red-checkered window curtains, and even a red mix master on the counter. The white really popped and looked so fresh and clean. After going home, that was the only house I viewed that day that stuck in my mind!

I'd paint only if the cabinets were in poor shape. My lower doors had dings and dents and the finish was destroyed in spots. Paint was the way to go.

Try changing the light fixture, putting up a new back splash, new hardware, new towels, new window treatment, putting in undercabinet lighting, clearing things off counters and above cabinets instead.

Think if a white kitchen really would look better next to the dining, family and/or living rooms.

And don't go pure white! Consider the shades of the other finishes in the room. If the floor has a green, blue or yellow tint then certain 'whites' would look horrible and others look marvelous.

Less of a commitment would be to whitewash them.

White high gloss, easy to clean, wipe with wet rag or sponge.
