Hi Beverly, for me it`s the best to keep it light and bright with white or off white paint. It will give the illusion of more light and it`s the perfect backdrop for any furniture or art.
You could do a stenciled wall! I like like gray for paint too - keeps it airy and bright.
Any natural color would work. Plain white paint right off the shelf would be stark. I would tone it down a bit. Gray can be tricky, it has blue, green, brown or purple background hughes. White Dove is a nice color, Oxford white is another nice color. Get a few paint samples and see what colors you like. You can also wallpaper one wall or stencil it. That would depend on your furniture and the size of the room. Paint all your trim in semi-gloss.
