You can paint the tile if you degloss it first. There are products available at the big box stores to do this. Then either get paint that is for tile, or use a product that increases the adhesive qualities of the paint and paint them.

Judy, yes the tiles can be painted as Mogie said. I would add a partial wall in glass at the shower. The pedestal sink is easily changed out with a vanity sink which will provide a bit of storage, but will probably add a heavier look to the room. I question the usefulness of the towel rack above the toilet. Be creative..have fun.

You can go to places like Habitat for Humanity and find very nice vanity for a very low price. They usually have a little bit of everything

Begin with nice shower doors and a new mirror. Get some new towels and then decide if you really want to paint the tile. From the picture it looks fine.

I like what you have, it's neutral. Empty out the room completely and give it a good thorough cleaning. Add your color with new linens, shower curtain and bath mat. Maybe a new light fixture will add to the look you desire. This avenue it certainly more budget friendly and easy to change out during seasons. Best of luck.

I agree with the other posts about clearing the room out and refreshing with new fixtures for the shower glass wall or a bright and happy shower curtain, light fixture and mirror and add color with pretty towels/bath mat. Painting the tile may not result in the color you want and then you are stuck. It could come out worse. I've always read that the neutral pallet, which is what you have, is the best starting point then you add the drama and dimension with fixtures and colors. this way, if you get tired of the shower curtain or color of the bathroom in the future, you can change it up and refresh without too much cost. Have fun. Kudos o you for raising your granddaughter.

I agree with the others. Don't paint the title, will save you time and money. Accent with color. You can even get a blind for the window that is in a color .

Add shower curtain and rugs and towels. Good quality makes a difference. I have gotten mine at JC Penny when on sale and have had then 10 years. Still look great . Please post on three after would enjoy seeing what you do

I have neutral color floor and shower tiles that I cannot change unless damaged, as it is a rental home. I have lived here now for ten years and have learned to upgrade the appearance of the main bathroom by changing colors and designs of towels, shower curtain, rugs and decorations at the beginning of each season. When I change from old season to new...everything is thoroughly cleaned and/or replaced due to wear. Using the extra large storage bags, all items are packed and vacumn sealed. You would be surprised by how little space is needed in the linen closet for these bags.

I would ad a beautiful statement shower curtain in a colourful but smallish pattern, preferably from fabric but with a plastic lining. Start it from as close to the celing as possible and make sure it can be drawn very far back.Keep the accessories neutral and in a similair colour to to the tiles (otherwise it will look too busy).Get a small basket system (in white or like the tiles)or two for either side of the basin for storage. Easy enough!

I lived in a house where the previous resident painted the tile and bathtub. As time went on, the paint started to peel, and it was easily chipped from wear and tear. If you tried to wash the walls, the way you would clean a ceramic tile wall, it damaged the paint. This was a professionally applied coating, too.

I would just clean the very nice tile you have, and then redecorate the rest of the room as you like. Your tile is neutral, so any colors you like will go well. Good luck.

  • Hi Judy! I can tell you how to paint tile with Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint! :)

It is super easy to paint with Dixie Belle:

Step one: Clean with White Lightning

Step two: Use Slick Stick so the paint will adhere to the slippery surface.

Step three: Paint one to two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint

Step four: Use Gator Hide for a water-resistant finish.

I'm attaching before and after photos so you can see the outcome.
