Paint chipping on cabinet doors?

I would strip all of them because if the paint is peeling on some of them, it could easily start on other cabinet doors later on. This might even be the reason they've been painted 4 times. Homeowner 1 paints the cabinets. Homeowner 2 sees peeling and paints them again. Homeowner 3 sees peeling and paints them again, etc. No one takes them back to the original finish so the problem continues.

Going back to the original finish, cleaning, priming and painting properly could prevent you from having to put on the 6th coat of paint in a year or two. A lot of people like CitriStrip for paint stripping, because it has pleasant citrus scent and is biodegradable. It is also safe to use indoors so it does have advantages. Four coats of paint is a lot and I don't think I would add another. I would do all of the doors so everything looks consistent when you go to repaint. I used CitriStrip on mine. However, this stripper works a bit differently and it takes a while because you need to let it sit for quite a while for it to work. Clean Strip will work faster but it should be an outside project. You could try a heat gun and a metal spatula to get the bulk of the paint off and then use stripper to get off the rest. It will be a big job to get all the paint off. Good Luck with your renovation! Get an Electric Sander.

I would use citri strip, it is less obnoxious than most of them and not that hard to use. You may be surprised what you find underneath all that paint!
