Painting an outdoor plywood tabletop?

I would definitely use exterior paint and seal it with polyurethane or marine polyurethane for the best protection.

Definitely prime it. You can use any paint you choose. Seal it with three coats of a water based polyurethane. You can also use Helmsman Spar Urethane to seal it. Used on wood boats.

Hello. Is the plywood pressure treated. I have an outdoor shower with pressure treated lumber and T1-11 -a plywood product.....and its stained with solid deck sealer and its been exposed to rain and shower water and wearing very well. Sometimes it gets mildewy in the Deeper grain or grooves and is cleaned up with shower spray. Not sure if thus helps.

I second the suggestion to use pressure treated if possible, but whatever you use to paint it, just be sure to seal it well. Good luck!

Be sure to seal the bottom side of plywood. Use exterior paints and sealers. The edge of the plywood is the weak spot of this, might give it an extra coat of poly. Use water based exterior poly, it will stay clear. The solvent based poly will “amber” over time.

They sell exterior paint that would work to paint it. Definitely seal the top when done.

Use exterior paints for the project. There are even some nice sprays that stand up to UV sunlight. Definitely seal all the exposed surfaces. An alternative to working the top surface would be the new counter top epoxy resins that are very popular. It would be a bit expensive and maybe difficult if your table is large, but it would make the finished project look amazing and last a really long time. Do some research before you decide.

Marine varnish over paint. I hope you use an exterior grade plywood.

If you want a coloured table top Minwax makes coloured stains you apply them like you would paint then you can had some outdoor polyurethane.

Use deck paint

Exterior grade plywood and stain and sealer that are for use on exterior wood, since you will still have sun and rain exposure. Pressure treated wood isn't something I would want on a table because of the chemicals used. Good luck and stay safe!

Plywood will come apart in the weather. It is important that you seal it very well with a heavy duty sealer, maybe a marine varnish?
