I have a dining room table I would like to paint old while but would like the top to be dark. Any suggestions?

In the process of doing that very same project. I bought my chalk paint at Walmart. They have a good selection and the price is right. The chalk paint has held up very well. I waxed it with the chalk paint wax from Walmart as well. No sanding required on the area that I painted with chalk paint. I used two coats. I am currently sanding the top and deciding how dark of a stain I want to use. I will then give it a coat or two of poly.

General Finishes Gel stain is awesome to work with, just sand down the top, and spread the stain on and wipe off..can even top it with General finishes top coat for protection, also very easy to use. I don't use AS chalk paint, she is way over priced, I buy paint minerals on Etsy and mix my own, always comes out nice and smooth and is deff a lot less money.

Here is one I made over but used normal acrylic paint and Minwax Walnut Stain with two coats of Minwax Polyacrylic over the stain. I sanded the top back to the bare wood before staining. I used a liquid stain - wipe on, leave a few moments and wipe off. I used a cloth to apply it. The protective poly coats were applied with a brush.

I make my own chalk paint out of the latex color I'm using so it matches. It's much more cost effective than buying retail.
