I want to paint my light maple bathroom cabinet and was wondering if chalk paint is advisable. What should I seal it with, if I use it? Thanks.

Hi Harriette, In a bathroom I personally do not recommend chalk paint because the room stays damp a lot. Remember that this is just my opinion and if you want chalk paint you can use it. If you are wanting to paint without sanding, Waterborne acrylic or polyurethane can be mixed with latex paint for a tough, durable finish that won't go gummy and sticky in a humid room like plain latex paint does. ... Stir both the waterborne finish and the latex paint thoroughly, then mix them in ratio of 2 parts paint to 1 part waterborne finish. I painted my cabinets this way and it stuck to the original finish just fine with no sanding. Good luck and Happy Easter.

Paints are a huge factor for kitchens and bathrooms. You will want to use something super heavy duty for that kind of traffic! If you are putting the time in to prep them well, primer and paint them well you will want a good paint that will last. Benjamin Moore ADVANCE!! $50 per gallon but it's so worth it!!! That paint is an excellent cabinet paint and you don't need a topcoat. You can but it's not necessary. I seriously just wipe it down when it gets dirty.

Hi! You can absolutely use a chalk based paint. You just want to make sure to have your cabinets sealed with clear finishing wax or a waterbased poly when using a chalk based paint. My favorite brands are Annie Sloan, Jolie, Dixie Belle and General Finishes. :)
