Painting cherry cabinets white

Remove a door and take it with you to select the best white that goes with it. But be prepared to paint the walls with the same paint.

Whenever I paint I first go look at options at the store. I bring home the sample sheets, generally 6-8 options. Then I can take a look at the colors against my "givens" such as the marble countertop, flooring, etc. and under the light that's in my own room.

Using this method allows me to choose the best color option for my own specific home situation. From your photo, I think the color you choose will most likely be based on which white works best with your countertop and backsplash tiles. As you're leaving the bottom cabinets with the same finish that's on there, I'd treat the wood tone as a "neutral" as far as choosing the top cabinet color but you wouldn't want to use a white with rose undertones unless it complements the wood stain.

Because you are keeping the wood tones you will want a 'warm' or beige tone white - cherry wood is a red brown so you will want to avoid a yellow beige- go more for a rosy/peach tint. Go very light and you will not even see the tint, it will reflect nicely with the wood you have. Hope this helps!

Purchase paint samples and test before choosing.

Bring the paint chips hone and see what they look like near to the cabinets. Many paint stores now sell "sample sized. You can paint a board and see what the color looks like with the lighting in your home. Paint will reflect the colors and light in the home, so it will look different in the store then in your house. (But please consider leaving them natural, cherry is so pretty.)

I would go with a cream or off white, just not an appliance white. I think it would blend better with the cherry.

My suggestion would be to bring a couple of samples cans, or even the acrylic paint you can buy in the craft stores

Find two or three shades of wjite you think you would like then cut strips from a white poster board to approximately 1/2 the lenth and width of a cabinet door. Paint poster stip with your sample. Tape it to one cabinet door. Repeat with remaining sample paints also taped to another door. LET THEM DRY OVER NIGHT. Next day observe your samples at different times of day

Natural light will reflect paint differently at different times od day. So allow yourself a full day/night cycle wirh and without added kitchen lighting. Ck. Twice, paint once. NOT foolproof but I think you make an inexpensive decision by doing it this way. But always cleans cabinet soors well with a degreaaing detergent so that paint will not peel. Have fun. Its only paint.
