What kind of paint should I use for Painting faucets?

My home was built in the early 1800's and I'd like to keep the original faucet's in the main bath. I've heard you can paint them a new color to match what you've added. I'd like to know the kind of paint and what steps need to be taken. Can you help me with this?

We did this last year in our master bathroom. Removed old chrome looking faucets sanded with sand paper then primered them and we painted them with krylon oil rubbed bronze paint and then we sprayed them with a couple of coats of poly. It has been a year and weuse them everyday and they still look great.
