Removing paint from plastic

Hi! I bought a Little Tyke play house for CHEAP at a garage sale but someone tried to paint it obviously let some little hands help. Is there any way I can get the paint off that won't eat through the plastic and ruin it? Thanks for any advice!

  • Try using Rubbing alcohol. I get spray paint off my fingers with it and even dried on paint on surfaces. Worth a shot. Good luck

Blow molded plastic doesn't hold paint well, it cracks. This paint should be easily removed. Rubbing alcohol will dull the plastic after the job is done. Just polish it with car wax.

Goo Gone or Goof Off will work if other methods don't. Both are available in the the paint department at home depot. Goof Off is a petroleum based product so Goo Gone is more gentle and less stinky. Good luck :)

Steam. Solid deck stain got splattered on our vinyl siding. I didn't seal the five gallon container when I went inside for a drink and a short break from staining our deck. A strong wind came up and knocked it over unbeknownst to me until it was dry. At first I took a pail of hot water and sponge to it which worked quite well. I realized quickly that would be too hard on my arms. That's when I thought of my hand held steam cleaning machine.

So far nothing else has worked. I'll give this a try. Thanks!

@Love Digging in the Dirt, do you know what kind of paint they used? There is a spray paint made for use on plastic. I would guess it would be harder to remove. If so, the best idea, might be to paint over it with a color of your choosing using that spray paint. Both Rustoleum and Kylon have versions of it.
