Should I paint the wall behind the boards or leave it the wall color?

Getting ready to add some boards on a wall in my dining room, used tape to get some idea of how it would look. Thinking of painting the boards and the wall behind the boards white or should I leave the wall as the wall color and only the boards white?

I would paint the wall white now before you install the boards. it is far easier to paint a flat wall then trying to paint it later after the boards are up. And I would prime and paint the boards before I put them up--adding a second coat of paint once they are up. Prime your boards first with a good primer--you will have much better paint coverage than if you just tried painting over raw wood. It's going to look very nice! Have fun!

I think the bottom and the trim should be white, I've always loved that look
