Spray paint is a multi-step process. Lightly spray, let dry, lightly spray, let dry, lightly spray -- well you get the idea. Spray from a distance of at least 8 inches. Do not spray in the early morning or late at night. Too much humidity. Use a spray paint can gun (Amazon sells). It's easier to use and doesn't wear out your finger! Good luck.
Move back and forth over the area with the spray about 8-12" from the object. Light coats at first, then one final coat. don't stop moving your hand back and forth.
Ladies thank you so much I have a great idea now Mary
You are too close keep moving.
Use a brush instead.
Hi Mary,
Spray paint takes a little practice, but is so easy once you master it. Drips can appear for many reasons.
Make sure the nossle is clear- use a pin and alcohol to keep it clear (spraying the can upside down clears it too.) Shake the can really well so the mixture in the can is uniform- this may be a reason for the drips. When spraying keep the can about a foot back from what you are painting. Several light coats of paint with drying in between works great. Drips are usually from the tip being clogged, not shaking the can or spraying too much paint at once.
Keep the can as upright as possible so the propellant lasts as long as the paint.
Several light coats about 8" away. Let each coat dry before applying the next. Don't try to cover in one coat. That is why it runs. Too much paint all at once.
All good advice...For the parts that aren't too heavy, try and put them horizontally whenever possible.
Yes ladies that was my problem too close and too much at one time, they are wrought iron for outside
