Could someone please tell me how to stain indoor stairs and what stain to use?

See if this helps. You need to sand them first. When applying stain and poly, do every other stair so you still have access while the alternate stairs dry.

  Great video! I do have a question i saw you using a Wood plane on the steps I think? Did you do this as your last step before pre stain and stain??
  Were having a problem with the wood and think we need to go as far as we can removing what we can. Thinking we are already down to nothing but when aplying stain you can see marks.

  You just need to sand enough to make them smooth and level. If you sand or scrape off too much you will compromise the integrity of the stair tread and need to replace it.

Love the "every other step" idea. It would have been helpful when I did mine 30 years ago!
