What can i use on old birch woodwork with out having to strip it?

I would like a darker color/

    We're going to try this on our stairs. We were told folks use it on pallet work.

    Research and see if it's the look you're hoping for.

    Chalk paint. No prep required, but I wash with TSP, let it dry and then paint. A couple of friends also subscribe to he same theory.

    General Finishes stain...You can apply using a sock (over a gloved hand). Will not look good after one coat, but don't give up, put on another coat or two and then a poly finish...you will love it. I used General's Java stain and it totally updated an outdated vanity and mirror.
