What color should I paint my accent wall?

Nadia
by Nadia
The collage below I created on Polyvore is a pretty accurate representation of what my bedroom currently looks like (minus the disco balls). The accent wall in my bedroom is a deep plum/purple and while I love this look, I'm starting to feel that my room is a bit dark and want to lighten the feel up. My furniture is dark brown. Looking for suggestions on what to paint the accent wall in my room. The other three walls are a very light beige, but I'm open to changing the color of those as well.

I am assuming that your bedding is black, white and gray as shown in the picture. If that is the case, I would paint the walls gray and the accent wall lavendar bringing the darker colors out in your artwork which could be fabric applied to canvas panels or your own multi-media creations.

hummm right , very dark. Too dark to relax in a room. I would probably install a zigzag tapisserie, whixh is cery of style, actually, colors: white, grey and red. So this red color could be one u would use for the decorative items to bring life on ur room...such as lamp shade, vases, or a mete on ur ved to cut the black and the white . Good luck to j.

me again. I realize writing on a tablet, we make mistakes...sorry. So, to correct, first, i meant to write, a jete (a through) bed instead of ved. And forget about ur art work...this (tapisterie) in zigzag is very decorative. Tell me about it

WOW!!! If I could keep the income I have now and return to my 30's I'd be dangerous!! LOL Polyvore is FAB!! You guys in your 20's and 30's have so many very cool techy things right at your fingertips! Ok, now about your 'dark' room dilemma @Nadia . Sorry I didn't mess around with how to do the room graphics. But idk what about something like this, with your accent walls being in a slightly lighter shade of purple that you love. I have no idea as to your 'style'. But Polyvore was FUN using! ;)

I say turquoise! Hee hee...just because I like it! Ha...and I think it would look great with the black and white bed scene and dark wood as well as brighten things up...a lot! o) And I think you should have the disco balls!

@My Gnome Little World I as well!!! Kurt was yipping at me, "What the heck are you doing there colouring and playing with graphics?, we have work to do" Hahahahahahhaa And so I did what ANY good woman would do......I finished my little graphic project, and then took a bath!! ;)
  • Gray is my choice....!

Everything I read says yellow is the color to decorate with now. Yellow would look great with the black and white!

I agree with @Patricia Presto. Gray to the silver side. Throw the picture in photoshop and play with colors. I'd be happy to do that for you if you don't have PS.

I say jump out there with some color. I just did my bathroom in black and white with apple green walls and everyone who comes into my house loves it. Just a suggestion!

@Louann Crum We just painted our bedroom with a pastel green and the accent wall has a diagonal stripe of orange and a vertical stripe of medium blue. We love it. The floating night tables are the pastel green. I have one chest of drawers to paint. Still deciding on the color.

a soft coral color! Light and bright!

I would suggest painting all walls a purple based light gray so your purple tones are brought in without making the room a purple box, then paint wide horizontal stripes (approx 10" to 14" wide) on the accent wall in white with a dark purple or silver (1" to 2" wide) stripe in the gray horizontal stripes that are left.

I vote with Decor 8 for gray as far as color because I painted my bedroom gray and it has a slight purple cast to it. I love it, it is soothing and romantic and made the room seem large. A lot of colors go with it as far as accents. I have black furniture and used pale aqua accents because my master bath is aqua.

    I agree......light gray.
  • Jean DeSavage Jean DeSavage on Aug 08, 2013
With the black and white, I would go with a saturated deep red, if you like dramatic, or a soft grayed green, a cross between mint and sage. Actually you could use any color you love, I would stay away from the brown family. If you really love purple, but want a lighter shade, try a periwinkle, with it's blue tinges it doesn't make it a feminine purple shade.
