If you are painting the walls with a light color tone...paint the ceiling same color, even if you still have a popcorn texture. I have done this in all our rooms and it certainly makes rooms seems larger, so much easier to paint. Wall and ceiling same paint. IMPORTANT ceiling same color paint should be flat or egg shell of wall color...NO SHEEN/SEMI GLOSS/GLOSS on ceiling.

We used a shade of light blue grey called November Sky... not too blue, not too grey and goes with brown tones quite well.

  • Suellen Hintz Suellen Hintz on Oct 16, 2017

Any color you want! I love a contrast color on the ceiling. Getting ready to paint guest bedroom ceiling lavender and keeping the walls a soft green.

Hmmm...I tried to answer this previously but maybe I missed a step; forgive me if it's a repeat! I would suggest searching for "ceiling paint" on Pinterest and saving some that you like -- maybe you will find a clear style that appeals to you! I have seen white ceilings, ceilings matched with the wall color, bold-colored ceilings, pattern-painted ceilings, and even gold/silver leaf ceilings...all depends on what appeals to you!

I think it's a personal choice as to the color and sheen you like best. I prefer to use a true bright white WALL paint in a satin finish on my ceilings and satin on my walls. However, on Nashville Flipped, Troy has painted his ceilings and walls in the same color & sheen and the rooms look gorgeous! It gives the illusion of a larger room with high ceilings. Very elegant. Your house, Your rules! Best of luck.

What ever color you would like. Nowadays, any color goes. I prefer white, eggshell or light tan/ beige. The lighter the color, the bigger and brighter a room appears. Grab some color paint swatches from just about anywhere that sells paint and tape them to the ceiling if possible just so you get an idea if you like the look.

Or, you can do darker wall color and do the lightest one on the ceiling. If you have a paint swatch with colors from dark to light, us, any color on that swatch towards the lighter end would be fine.

It really is a matter of personal preference. I know a lot of people who would be uncomfortable not painting a ceiling white. I love usually color on a trey ceiling. Go with what you like

    white

  • Lori Lori on Oct 16, 2017

As a painter for 18 years white is always a good choice. A few shades lighter is also nice. If the walls are a pastel blue a light pastel lavender is nice. Sherwin Williams has a paint color "IBIS WHITE" it is white with a hint of pink, makes the ceiling glowing soft. If the ceiling is in perfect condition use a satin or eggshell finish. If any flaws use a flat paint. No glosses.

  • Michele Pappagallo Michele Pappagallo on Oct 16, 2017

One of the prettiest ceilings I ever saw was a very pale blue color. It was almost white, but had a slight hint of blue that seemed to open it up and make it look much taller...somewhat like the sky. It definitely gave the room a fresh, airy appearance.

  • that is really a matter of personal choice. My cathedral ceiling is painted grey and the rest of the house has white ceilings. There are many pictures on the Internet for many colors on ceiling. try googling it.

  • I have done various shades of white, pale gray and pale blue.

  • Ebbjdl Ebbjdl on Oct 16, 2017

Paint it any color you want, what's nice is sand color ceiling, with peach color walls. Other colors will work also.

  • Darlene Duncan Darlene Duncan on Oct 16, 2017

Generally most ceilings are painted flat white.. Or a lighter colour than the walls, but usually always flat or eggshell (flat paint hides flaws best). Paint with a shine or sheen, shows imperfections in the surface..

  • CA CA on Oct 16, 2017

I like mine a shade lighter than the color of the wall. Others like their ceilings white as they feel it makes it easier to read.

If the ceiling is a flat normal ceiling I think it should be white. But if it is not a flat ceiling and is higher like a cathedral ceiling for example, I paint the ceiling the same color as the walls. Incredibly the lighting in the room always makes a differentiation and the room appears more warm and cozy!

Hello, I have pained the ceiling with a color to compliment the wall color and I have also painted it the same color. There really is no right or wrong. What you like is what matters. You are the one that looks at it every day. Here is a picture of a room with a different colored ceiling to give you an idea of what it would look like.

  • Peg Peg on Oct 16, 2017

Actually that is a personal choice.

  • Rich Rich on Oct 16, 2017

a flat white works well to hide bad spots. A painter told me to stay away from celing paint an sweres by Sherwin williams

  • DesertRose DesertRose on Oct 16, 2017

Generally people pain them a light color, what it would be depends on your other decor. We had white most the time, but our walls are auburn and gold, so ceiling is off white this time. Lighter colors help the room seem larger and the ceiling higher

There are so many options, it can be hard to decide. I am always happy with a tone on tone look of a lighter color on the ceiling and a shade or two darker on walls. I love painting ceilings a palush sky blue color as it expanding the ceiling height. A matte or eggshell are usually best for flat, lumpy, or bumpy textures. Semigloss (on ceilings) is great in bathroom and kitchens.

The most popular color for ceilings is white, but if you like 'new' things, try Jan's idea. Another option that seems to be coming more popular is stained wood, often stained in more than one color.

Over the years I have painted most ceiling the lightest shade of the colour of the walls , or off white , I have also painted a 15 ft high ceiling darker than the walls and it look lovely as well , that was a bright room with a skylight

  • Susan Massey Susan Massey on Oct 16, 2017

Get a paint roller that has an extension piece to it and you can stand on the floor and quickly paint the whole room. I recommend flat off-white or cream.

  • Jewellmartin Jewellmartin on Oct 16, 2017

I have seen some lovely ceilings with pastel shades of blue, pink or yellow. But my own preference is white or off-white. You can always use different colors in different rooms. Best wishes 😇💞

  • Cindy Cindy on Oct 16, 2017

When you look at paint chips, pick one color near the bottom of the chip for your walls. Then pick a color near the top of the paint chip for the ceiling. A lot of interior designers do this on the Home and Garden channel.

  • Macysmom Macysmom on Oct 16, 2017

Personally I like the ceiling the same as the room. If you use the same paint it will look a shade off so it appears they are two colors. Sure makes painting easier.

  • Debi Debi on Oct 16, 2017

    White

  • McDouglas McDouglas on Oct 16, 2017

  • FL FL on Oct 16, 2017

I always have gone with white except for the ceiling of a front porch, which I paint light sky blue.

  • Sharon Sharon on Oct 16, 2017

I do just the opposite as Jan, a satin ceiling paint reflects light better and can help brighten a room. Paint the ceiling lighter if you want to make it appear higher.

    Here's a good article.... https://www.kylieminteriors.ca/what-colour-do-i-paint-the-ceiling/

If your ceiling are high, you have the option to do some more unusual treatment including metallics, pearl, deeper darker colors, faux painting.

My favorite is to paint clients metallic ceilings.... it adds a special glow to a room, drama and elegance. The new Rustoleum Metallics comes in wonderful colors. https://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=paint%20metallic%20ceilingp&rs=typed&term_meta[]=paint%7Ctyped&term_meta[]=metallic%7Ctyped&term_meta[]=ceilingp%7Ctyped

If your the artsy type there are galaxy ceiling treatments, starry nights, clouds etc. and I like the stenciled mandelas around ceiling lights/chandeliers..... https://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=paint%20artistic%20ceiling&rs=typed&term_meta[]=paint%7Ctyped&term_meta[]=artistic%7Ctyped&term_meta[]=ceiling%7Ctyped

Since I am the artsy type and love nature, I have painted many cloud ceilings especially the faux dome with clouds.

  • Goliaph Goliaph on Mar 28, 2020

All the walls and ceilings in my house are white. It is stylish and looks minimalistic. In General, I believe that the most beautiful design is when everything is very minimalist and white because on all this white background, you can give the apartment any style you want and that will reflect your inner world. When I did my own repairs, I did it with my wife. Everything we did was purely our ideas. The only thing that other people have helped us with is the choice of noise-canceling panels for walls and ceilings. We were advised tiles for ceiling.

  • Debby Weisman Debby Weisman on Mar 31, 2020
