What color to paint a room with 20 foot ceilings

I have a living room dining room combo, I have dark floors, dark furniture, dark fire place, and dark barn doors on the wall, and I don't get a lot of light in this room, I want to keep it warm and cozy, but I don't know what color to go with it. Can you help me decide how to paint this room?

This is whats is in it now
this before I bought the house

A shade of white, dark floors with white walls is very in now too. It looks very rich, the contrast is beautiful.

Your room looks great the way you have it decorated. Do you want to paint or change the furniture?

It looks like what you're lacking MOST OF ALL is natural light. Depending on your budget, you might want to think about adding some recessed lighting from above.

Another thing that might help a bit is to work on the fireplace. You could whitewash, paint, or put a lighter colored stone or brick veneer over it. I would also put down a larger and lighter colored rug.

I want to paint, I love the recessed lighting and light rug idea, I thought of doing a German Smear on the fireplace. but I'm not worried that it stays a dark room I have a sunroom that I get plenty of light. thank you.

Trending colors are off-white and grey. A light grey would look good with your dark finishes.

Sherwin Williams Austere Grey or Repose Grey at 125% to 150% (degree of what paint color you want lighter or darker). Buy the samples of paint and try on poster board to see which shade appeals to you. Anyway, I have 18 ft wall to ceiling with vaulted ceiling with one center beam. We painted ceiling soft white and had store tweak the paint a darker shade for center beam. Also we have a small foyer that enters into living room, and we had them make paint a lighter shade for the entry ceiling. We have had a couple colors before, and this one seams to work and easier to decorate with, as a base.

    Kathy,

I absolutely love your place. I use to have a house with 17 ft ceilings and a fireplace. The barn doors look great as well as the seating area. Before I talk ab the paint, I want to inform you ab your paintings. The place is spacious and while you dont have plenty of natural light, the wall decor is not proportional to your walls and will make you feel as if you are an ant in a castle. Think big and either purchase some large prints such as 3ft by 5ft, or buy some canvas and have some fun with your kid or grandkids and paint it with appropriate colors. I like the sencond version but is your choice.

The color: think like this 60%, 30%, 10%. The 60% is your floor walls furniture and doors. So you must paint in a similar color to this. I would choose something like cappuccino or a soft brown. Lowes match color from a fabric or picture. Your 30% could be a color in a painting or rug or lamp shade or blanket or even furniture. The 10% looks like is the red you have around. Make sure you spread it around and it does not look out of place.

Make sure you add something round by the main door like a large vase or a fruit plate. Also, don,t keep fake frowers around. Your livingroom must bread and invite the life in so try to maintain a live plant. I prefer the ones with big leafs especially in a room like yours.

    My best wishes
