What color to paint my light cabinets?

Sandra
by Sandra
Hi, we recently installed new flooring in our kitchen, a dark laminate plank with a plastic backing, good for areas for water spills. The cabinets are a type of wood but were purchased from a shop, cream color and almost like a laminate wood. The back splash has light cream, almost grey, a dark greenish brown and a light tan in it, the counter tops are a mix of tan, cream and dark brown. The walls we painted Parchment color, which is close to the cabinetry color. the appliances are not not matched but we will say the majority is stainless steel. I would like to paint the cabinets, but keep the new dark brown toned flooring, backsplash and counter tops, i also like the light colored walls. Can you help me decide on cabinet colors? im thinking my husband wont want bold colors, maybe darker grey on top and light grey for the bottoms? wondering if you know of any websites where i could actually see similar pictures before I do this as i really cant picture the outcome, thanks so much, Sandra p.s.the pic is older, the walls are now light,, as in close to cabinet color and the flooring is a rick dark color,

Your cabinets are a great color for the other things in your room. If they are in good condition I would leave them and focus on getting all stainless appliances.. Ialso would update the window treatments to something more updated like a roman shade or blinds. I don't think gray will match your flooring. If you could see your way clear to do the stainless..I think you will see a difference. Good luck!!

I like the color of your cabinets with your darker colors. I think grey would make the kitchen too dark; use a modern window treatment.
  • I know this doesn't help but I actually like the color of the cabinets. I would change other elements before I change the cabinets to grey. Alot of people think grey is on the way out. ...Food for thought

BLACK with pewter looking door knobs and drawer pulls

Colors are truly ones own personal taste, however My opinion neither gray or black.Instead of painting I would look into stripping and staining to keep your kitchen in the wood tone appearance. For inspirations research Houzz, what others have done and posted on HomeTalk or Pinterest.com. Always keep in mine before selecting colors, base on the amount of lighting your room actually has. Been there done that.

I like the cream color as well. Think about switching out your cabinet hardware for an update. We had to paint our 1960's maple cabinets. However, the paint has worn in some areas after 15 years so need to do over. Nothing like factory painted cabinets. Agree that you could put your efforts into having your appliances match.

I would leave the cabinets. Otherwise there will be too much dark on dark.
