What is the best Stain/Sealer to use on a wooden fence?

Fence is about 18 months old, just powerwashed it and now it needs to be sealed....any recommendations on a product that would last longer than a few years?

No matter what you seal it with a wood fence will always require some sort of maintenance every few years. Mother Nature is brutal on anything permanently outdoors.

  It does help - a lot, just see what happens after a few years. I still have a section of original "builders special" fencing in my yard, (house built in 1986), and while it rarely gets very cold for any great length of time, it does get brutally hot (100 days of 100° + in the shade), and the sun just dries everything up. Mine needs doing again, but worth the effort as it is still standing! Just depends on how pristine you want the fence to look.

It is best if you use a transparent stain. This is what is recommended by the pros for decks also.

I used a solid on my fence when I replaced it. Soaks into the wood and also protects the surface. Going on about ten years and only had to power wash it from dirt and grime.

Thompson's water seal by far. Has been around forever.
