Check out Unicorn Spit....it can be used as a stain or a glaze...on glass, wood, metal - practically anything. Finish with an oil based protectant as it is water based. It is addictive however, so use with caution!!

I love SPiT paint - I've used it on several surfaces. You can also spray on mirror paint which will give the glass a mirrored surface.

I would like to paint designs on plates and use them for the holidays. Do I have to bake the plates after they are painted

Craft stores carry enamel paints, they can be baked. Directions on the bottle. If you paint on glass and don't bake it it wears off quickly. I always use a clear non yellowing glaze too after everything is baked and cool.
