If you are really sure you want to paint tumbled marble, I suggest that you use a watered down acrylic and not paint the grout. It will more than likely be porous and absorb paint as you dab. You may need to use several coats, drying between each coat.

i probably won't do anything, but I'm tired of the brownish beige. Thank you for your help. I have a bit of the tumbled marble scraps that the contractoo left behind years ago....so, I could practice.

Why would you want to paint tumbled marble?

What about a different wall paint? Consider the marble's color as a "non" color, meaning that this color will go with virtually everything. Adding new colored accessories or wall paint will cause the backsplash to take on a whole different life.

Or -- how about having a long piece of plexiglas cut and painting something, or putting a wall tat (www.walltat) or phrase you really like on it. You can then velcro it to the backsplash using the stones as just a backdrop.
