Make sure to give them a good cleaning before you get started. Paint on a primer carefully getting all the edges and let dry. Use a tile sponge to apply the stain. Let it dry completely, add a second coat if desired. Wait 24 hours and apply urethane based sealer. Apply a second coat and wait 24 hours until walking on the tiles. Good luck!
Could also try a concrete stain or etching stain To change the color. Valspar makes some. Also, you could seal it with concrete sealer - as long the prior finish is gone, that would give it a wet look. We did that to a patio and it was beautiful but very slippery.
I thought the beauty of these tiles are, the older they are the better they look.
If you have some to sample on....try a little linseed oil and then seal. It has a slight golden color to it. I use this method on my chocolate saltillo tile. But make sure you have them clean and no seal on them otherwise it will not penetrate.
I am trying to do exactly what you were trying to do back in May. Have you acheived your goal? What do you recommend?
